What made you decide to look into Barbizon?

I always wanted to model and act and felt that Barbizon would be a great school for me. My self-confidence was a little shaky before Barbizon. I wasn't sure of myself and I did not think I was pretty. So I felt that Barbizon would be able to help me with all of that.

How do you feel today after attending Barbizon?

I feel prettier, more confident; I can walk into a room and act like I own it. I am a better communicator and public speaker. Before I was not that good at speaking in front of large groups of people and now because of the confidence I am a much better public speaker. Barbizon made me feel great!

Can you talk to us about self- confidence?

A lot of teen-agers don't have the self-confidence I now have as a result of the classes at Barbizon. I see teens everyday that don't think that they are pretty enough or good enough. That is how I used to feel. Barbizon helps you to find your inner and outer beauty. Feeling better is life changing.

Do you deal with peer pressure?

No I have been very fortunate to not have to deal with peer pressure, I am very confident now so it does not affect me.

Many times we now talk about the competitive edge that people need in today's society….can you tell us what you think about that.

I've always been a very competitive person but Barbizon has pulled it all together for me. I know am pulled together, I know how to go in and handle any job interview and I am a better communicator. They helped prepare me for the real world and put me ahead of the pack.

Tell us about how winning the $100,000 College Scholarship will change your life?

I've always worried about the money involved in going to college. I did not want to tell my mom where I really wanted to go because I did not think it would be realistic. Now I can go to NYU or any of the Ivy League colleges, the one's I always wanted to go to but did not think I would be able to. I don't have to worry about the money for college anymore. Now I can focus more on studying and getting good grades.

From a teen-agers point of view how do you feel that attending Barbizon would help other teen-agers?

It would give them the confidence I now have, I see it everyday, girls and guys without a lot of confidence. If they came here that would change. It changes your life for the better. Barbizon is a wonderful place to be.

Red Cheryl's (Briana's Mom) Interview

What changes have you seen in Briana since she attended Barbizon?

I've seen a lot of changes. To me she has always been beautiful. But she has learned how to carry herself, how to walk into a room, knows how to dress, she is very poised & VERY confident. Her confidence has gone up; she is now comfortable in her own skin and not afraid to take on new challenges & situations. She is now happy to be her.

How is Briana winning the $100,000 College Scholarship going to change your and Briana's life?

I have talked to Briana for the last few years about college as she has always been very bright & I want her to take advantage of that. But at the same time as a single mom I do not have the money set aside for her to go to college. So this scholarship is incredible!!!! It makes it easier for me, I no longer have to worry, and a burden has been lifted from my shoulders. This scholarship will also open so many more doors for her; she can go to the best universities in this country now.

Are you glad that Briana attended Barbizon?

I am very glad that Briana attended Barbizon, she loved the classes, was happy and each week I saw changes in her for the better in all of the things she was learning. She is also much more poised and confident. Plus she won the $100,000 College Scholarship to use for any college or university in the USA.

From a parent's standpoint what would you say to other parents thinking of enrolling their teenager in Barbizon?

To look past the skeptsism because I was very skeptical. There are a lot of scams out there; I'm comfortable saying this is a reputable business. We got what we paid for, she learned so much and she will carry it with her the rest of her life. Also, it helps the teens develop self confidence and self esteem, strength of character to stand up to the peer pressure that is out there today. They realize that they have a future and they have the confidence to stand up to the pressure. My daughter also has a 4.3 GPA, she has always been a great student but we live in a very competitive society, Barbizon has helped her with her communication skills, she can think on her feet as well has when she walks into a room people notice her… to me she now is the whole package, Barbizon gave her that.

Our 2008 Winner: Leslie Esquival

Leslie Esquival is 12 years old from Keller, Texas and is in the 6th grade. She is a graduate of the Barbizon school of Dallas, hopes to someday work with animals. She has a house full of them! When she first heard the news that she won, she wasnít sure what it all meant. Her mom explained it to her...and she was thrilled. Leslie has an older sister, and the family is happy that they only have one college tuition to pay for instead of two. her guidance counselor calls her a very special young lady, and the principal says she will go far in life. Leslie isnít sure where she wants to attend college yet.

OUR 2007 WINNER: CHARLENE MILLER

Barbizon is pleased to introduce 15 year old Charlene Miller from Lithonia, Georgia, the winner of the 2007 $100,000 Scholarship Drawing. Charlene is a Barbizon graduate and entered the contest during a lecture at her high school. Barbizon's College Scholarship Awards Program is an on-going program where every year we award a free four-year college tuition scholarship, valued at up to $100,000.

"When I heard the news that I had won the scholarship, I felt very happy! My mother and I were jumping for joy, we didn't actually believe it. I was very happy and it was a lot of stress off my mother because she was so worried about how she was going to send me to college."
