Simple Steps to Marketable Photos
If you aspire to start a career in the Modeling/Acting Industry and are seeking representation, paying high price for a photo shoot is unnecessary. When submitting photos to agencies, the Agents/Mangers want to see clean and natural images. To get started you will need to purchase a digital camera (it does not have to be expensive or high-tech).
Acting Agencies: Usually request a headshot with a resume. The headshot needs to be clean and natural. The image should show your shoulders to the top of your head. The image should be shot on a solid backdrop with natural light (no shadows). The Actor should wear a solid shirt preferably with sleeves (no accessories) and natural hair and make-up. The image should reflect personality and spirit!
Modeling Agencies: Request the models find a good space outside with natural light. The space should be simple with a solid backdrop. Female models should shoot their images in skinny jeans and a solid tank top with heels (no accessories) with natural hair and make-up. Male models should also shoot in skinny jeans and a fitted t-shirt/tank top, barefoot (no accessories). If the model is over the age of 13 and has a toned physic the model should also shoot in a solid swimsuit. It is important to take headshots, ¾ shots, and full-length shots of the subject. Keep the poses simple and natural. When submitting images to modeling agencies, if the model is over 12 years-of-age it is important he/she includes their statistics (Bust, Waist, Hip and Height). Also include profiles and different facial expressions (smile/no-smile). It is also good to shoot the model from the ground up to lengthen the models body.
Once snapshots are completed, send the selected images via email or through the postal service with cover letter and contact information. Keep in mind if the agency takes you on from your digital submission, you eventually will have to “test” professionally with their photographer to build your portfolio
