Barbizon Grad, Nicole Dreger, recently wrote us and filled us in on her experience as a student of the esteemed New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts in which she was awarded a scholarship. Check out what Nicole wrote about her experience below. The learn more about the NY Conservatory click here.
This summer I attended the New York Conservatory’s Summer Program. I won a scholarship to the school through the Barbizon Passport to Discovery Cruise, last summer. At first I was excited to go to New York for a month, I got to go to the city of dreams and do what I love! Then of course nerves set in, seeing as I would be alone in a city I had never been to, with people I didn’t know. But, once I got there, those nerves disappeared. It was so surreal walking the streets of New York! I couldn’t believe that I was actually there! The view from my dorm was fantastic! I wasn’t entirely big on the subway ride into Manhattan in the morning, being packed into the tiny car like sardines, but I got used to it. Everything else was so wonderful it was worth it!
The classes were super fun and very informational, Film and Television being my favorite; we got to work in front of the camera as well as behind the scenes with the technology. Other classes included Acting, Movement/Stage Combat, Improv, and Voice. All of the teachers and staff were wonderful and very nice. Everyone had been in the business before teaching at the conservatory. And the students were nice too! I made friendships I hope to have for life!
Weekends were the only time we really had to explore, and we did as many things as we could! Broadway shows, times square, central park, shopping: We did it all! We did get lost a few times, but we found things we never would have found along the way. They even filmed a movie right outside our dorm, staring Amy Pohler and Paul Rudd!
All in all I had an amazing experience at the New York Conservatory! I hope I can go back to New York soon!
